Bloggers Behind Bars...

Hey out there...

I was blog surfing and I came across this page, which I think everyone should read through and add a link to their own blogs....Committee to Protect Bloggers: THE COMMITTEE TO PROTECT BLOGGERS ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST CAMPAIGN: Free Arash and Mojtaba

This link will take you to the "what you can do" section...

Basically there are bloggers throughout the world who have and still are being imprisoned for expressing their political views through the internet.

If bloggers are forced underground, this undermines our ability to publish stories that mainstream media wish to suppress. The power of blogs, whether used for good or bad purposes, is our power - and it is being threatened. Knowledge is power. The internet has given us the ability to know, more than ever, about the world we live in -from the sexual habits of our elected officials, to the joys of parenting, to art of spear fishing.

It has also brought some ugly truths into our bedrooms, living rooms, and offices. Our computer monitors look out into thousands of lives, snipets of truth, humor, terror.

Journalists in mainstream media have fought and won the right to be free to express their truths, whether they (as businesses) choose to exercise that freedom is another story. Bloggers should have that same freedom -but they don't. Bloggers are being imprisoned because they refuse to back away from stories. Unlike most corporate media, bloggers can't be bought, since in most cases they get no financial payoff from their stories.

It's our time to take a stand, to tell our government what we as journalists and bloggers think. We need to stand up for our freedom of expression.

It's time to back away from the computers and take some action.

I can't believe that such an injustice is taking place. At the same time, I feel grateful that we live in a country where we can express our ideas without fear of being incarcerated for them.
